“Climate change is the defining issue of our time. If we do not take urgent action, all our plans for increased global prosperity and security will be undone,” said the UN chief in opening remarks to the “Abu Dhabi Ascent”, which he is co-hosting with the United Arab Emirates Government to prepare for and build commitment ahead of his Climate Summit, set for 23 September in New York.
Irina Bokova Celebrates 60th anniversary of Russia's UNESCO Membership
The Director-General participated in the celebration of the 60th anniversary of Russia's membership in UNESCO, held in Moscow and organised by the National Commission for UNESCO.
The ceremony was opened by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia and President of Commission of the Russian Federation to UNESCO, Sergey Lavrov, and included parliamentarians, along with many members of the National Commission, from all spheres of activity.
Earth Day focuses on green cities
People across the world are being urged to speak out on behalf of Mother Earth so that she can continue to care for life as she has done for more than one thousand of years.
The appeal comes from UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in his message for International Mother Earth Day observed on 22 April each year.
