With the United Nations climate conference (COP21) starting in Paris in less than two weeks away, the World Health Organization (WHO) today underlined that climate change is already causing tens of thousands of deaths every year, and called on countries to take strong actions to address the issue.
The UN health agency is attributing these deaths to shifting patterns of disease from extreme weather events – such as heat-waves and floods – and from the degradation of air quality, food and water supplies, and sanitation.
On November 11-12, 2015 at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris ISEDC Executive Director Yury Posysaev attended the 38th session of the General Conference of UNESCO, and presented to the delegates a biennium report on the Centre’s activities for 2014-2015.
On November 3-18, 2015 the 38th session of the General Conference of UNESCO was held at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. General Conference of UNESCO is the major event of the Organization organized every two years.
Japan and the United States lead a small group of nations that are driving innovation in 3D printing, nanotechnology and robotics, three frontier technologies that hold the potential to boost future economic growth, according to a new report by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).
“Historical technological breakthroughs have been at the root of long-lasting expansions in economic output,” said WIPO Director General Francis Gurry in a press release.
ISEDC Executive Director Yury Posysaev took part as a speaker at the Thematic Session “Renewable Energy for Global Sustainability”, organized by UNESCO on 6 November 2015.
By adopting the closing document World Science Forum ended its work on Saturday, 7 November.
Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation, Sergei Lavrov, emphasized the importance of UNESCO in his speech to the 38th Session of the General Conference and within the context of the Organization’s 70th Anniversary today.
“It's difficult to overestimate the importance of UNESCO, which has confidently proven itself as a reliable humanitarian base of global architecture, a recognized forum for the protection of spiritual and cultural heritage,” Mr. Lavrov said.
