1ISEDC Executive Director Yury Posysaev took part as a speaker at the Thematic Session “Renewable Energy for Global Sustainability”, organized by UNESCO on 6 November 2015.

By adopting the closing document World Science Forum ended its work on Saturday, 7 November.

The Forum, held from 4 to 7 November, brought together some 800 participants, scientists, decision-makers, industry leaders and representatives of civil society to discuss the ability of science to improve human lives and the new challenges facing science in the 21st century. It is the first major international science event since the recent adoption of the United Nations General Assembly of new Sustainable Development Goals for 2015-2030.
President of Hungary Janos Ader emphasized the role that science and technology can play in transforming societies: “it can help to restore peace and be a driver for a sustainable future,” he said.
The Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova called for deeper collaboration across all fields, new partnerships and new forms of cooperation.
“Science holds answers to key questions societies must address in moving forward -- to promote equitable and inclusive growth, to eradicate poverty, to bolster energy, water and food security, to control disease, to mitigate disasters, to build sustainable cities,” said the Director-General. “I see science as both a driver and an enabler, to craft new approaches that are inclusive, rights-based and founded on solid scientific ground.”
“Science has always been a bridge, despite political tensions between countries, and it should build further on that tradition,” said Professor Laszlo Lovasz, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
ISEDC Executive Director Yury Posysaev took part as a speaker at the Thematic Session “Renewable Energy for Global Sustainability”, organized by UNESCO on 6 November 2015 in the building of Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
As of 2015, energy stands at the centre of global efforts to induce a paradigm shift towards low-carbon energy systems, green economies, poverty eradication and ultimately sustainable development. “UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon is leading a Sustainable Energy for All Initiative to ensure universal access to modern energy services, improve efficiency and increase use of renewable sources. In September 2015 the United Nations committed to 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to achieve in the next 15 years. Among them is SDG 7: Ensure access to affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all. For the first time energy will officially act as a dedicated and stand-alone UN Sustainable Development Goal. SDG7 has its targets, one of which is to increase substantially, by 2030, the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix. Thus, development of renewable energy is of exceptional value to achieve this ambitious goal”, said Yury Posysaev.
Furthermore, the Executive Director of ISEDC informed the participants of the Thematic session about current situation with RES development in Russia, noting, in particular, the active efforts of the Ministry of Energy of the Russian Federation in supporting the principles of both global energy and economy transition to a low-carbon future. “A crucial role in this transformation is played by renewable and planned increase in their share in the global energy mix”, said Mr. Posysaev.
The World Science Forum closed on Saturday is the only meeting in the world where the representatives of science can have a dialogue with decision-makers by using a complex set of criteria in the discussions. At the WSF in Budapest this year some 800 scientists, political decision-makers, lay experts and science journalist participated from several countries. The next WSF meet-up is due in Jordan in 2017.
