New Initiative Targets 2020 in Race to Tackle Dangerous Climate Change
A group of leading climate and business experts today identified the year 2020 as a game changing opportunity to turn the tide on the devastating impacts of carbon emissions. Convened by Christiana Figueres - former Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) – the group met today in London to encourage urgent action in the next three years.
Next 10 years critical for achieving climate change goals
CO2 and other greenhouse gases in the atmosphere can be reduce in 2 ways-by cutting our emissions, or by removing it from the atmosphere, for example through plants, the ocean, and soil. The Paris Agreement set a target of limiting future global average temperature increase to well below 2°C and pursue efforts to even further limit the average increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
The 2017 Global Energy Prize: international award for low-cost and efficient solar cells
The name of the Global Energy Prize laureate was announced during the international press conference. In 2017 the prestigious award goes to Michael Graetzel (Switzerland) “for transcendent merits in development of low cost and efficient solar cells, known as “Graetzel cells”, aimed to creation of cost-efficient, large-scale engineering solutions for power generation”.
Putin says climate change not caused by emissions
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday said climate change was unstoppable and not caused by human activity and urged countries to adapt to global warming. One day after he visited the Franz Josef Land archipelago in the Arctic, Putin claimed that icebergs had been melting for decades and suggested that global warming was not mankind's fault.

Arctic sea ice could disappear even if world achieves climate target
Arctic sea ice could vanish in summers this century even if governments achieve a core target for limiting global warming set by almost 200 countries. The ice has been shrinking steadily in recent decades, damaging the livelihoods of indigenous people and wildlife, such as polar bears, while opening the region to more shipping and oil and gas exploration.
