The 8th session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme for specialists from developing countries and countries in transition has been successfully implemented from 6th to 31st of October 2014.
The Fellowships Programme was held at the premises of higher educational institution – Ecological Faculty at Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, which is located in Moscow, Russian Federation. Highly skilled professionals in the amount of 19 international fellows from Argentina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bolivia, Chile, Gambia, Madagascar, Mali, Mongolia, Montenegro, Peru, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Togo, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Zimbabwe and Zambia participated in the eighth session.
The main subject of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme in 2014 was devoted to "Sustainable Energy for All".
Finally, participants prepared and presented their reports on the topic "The role of sustainable energy development in my country. "In their works they did a detailed analysis of the current situation in the country, led the statistics in this area, and shared assessments of the prospects of sustainable development. This exchange of knowledge and information was mutually beneficial for both the participants and experts.
In the end of the course fellows were awarded with certificates and diplomas of successful completion of the 8th session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-sponsored Fellowships Programme.

ISEDC Supports the UN Initiative Sustainable Energy for All in the Framework of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme
The issues related to the sustainable energy development will be discussed by foreign students - participants of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme in October this year.
On the 6th of October 2014 the 8th session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-sponsored Fellowships Programme for specialists from developing countries and countries in transition started up at the premises of Ecological Faculty of Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. This year the Programme is participated by 19 young specialists from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Gambia, Madagascar, Mali, Mongolia, Montenegro, Peru, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Togo, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The main subject of the Fellowships Programme 2014 is called «Sustainable Energy For Al»” and devoted to the topical issues within the framework of the Programme, such as sustainable energy development, renewable energy, environment protection, development of cooperation in the field of energy technologies, strengthening the international human capacity development in the energy sector. The curriculum consists of 116 academic hours of practical and theoretical classes.
The educational process of the 8th session is led by experienced lecturers and presenters from Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO, and also by invited experts from World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Joint Institute for High Temperatures of Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow Energy Institute, State Moscow University, Freiberg University of Mining and Technology, Center for International Industrial Cooperation of UNIDO in the Russian Federation and other institutions.
The visits to the Russian subject-oriented institutions are also very important part of the Programme. During the 8th session, international fellows are going to visit various conferences and exhibitions, in particular International Conference «City Energy and Urban Planning», International Conference and Exhibition of the Society of Petroleum Engineers "RO&SPE", 4rd International Exhibition for Renewable Energy and Alternative Fuel "REenergy 2014", Russian Exhibition of technologies and equipment for energy, electrical engineering, and energy saving technologies "Energy Saving", International Forum for Innovative Development "Open Innovation", and other events.
During the Programme, students will make reports on the situation and prospects of energy development in their countries, record video appeals to all future participants of the Fellowships Programme and present their courseworks.International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO (ISEDC) has been holding the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme for specialists from developing countries and countries in transition since 2008 in cooperation with UNESCO and leading Russian institutions. ISEDC Experts Along with Fellows of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme Participated in the Annual Forum Open Innovations
The annual Forum and Exhibition "Open Innovations" were held in Moscow on 14–16 October 2014 supported by the Moscow Government and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.
The Forum "Open Innovations" is a global discussion platform that is dedicated to emerging technologies and furthering innovation prospects and collaboration worldwide. The 3rd Moscow International Forum for Innovative Development "Open Innovations" and Open Innovations Expo brought together more than 15,000 participants from 70 countries of the world. The People’s Republic of China became the Official Partner Country of the Forum and the Expo. The heads of the governments of Russia and China Dmitry Medvedev and Li Keqiang took part in the work of the III Moscow International Forum for Innovative Development "Open Innovations" and visited the Open Innovations Expo.
More than 160 events (discussion panels, round tables, Governor sessions) of the Forum and Expo business program united representatives of high-tech companies, science, education, regulatory and administrative authorities, investors and authors of breakthrough ideas. Expo’s 84 stands were represented the development of 490 companies from 15 countries. Three open presentation areas were working, where more than 50 events were held. 110 teams presented their projects in the special StartUP-Zone which has become the centre of the exposition of the Exhibition. This year Open Innovations Expo has also become the main platform for the Forum’s Youth Program.
On the official invitation of organizers of the annual Forum and Exhibition "Open Innovations" fellows of the 8th session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme were invited to participate in the above event. International students were accompanied at the Forum and Expo by the ISEDC Head of Educational Programmes sector Mr. Aleksandr Antonov, ISEDC Head of Public Relations department Ms. Marina Bulavskaya and ISEDC chief specialist of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources sector Mr. Mikhail Lyalin.
During the forum, students actively participated in discussion panels and round tables on green technologies, "smart grids", innovative developments, energy saving and global educational prospects, and also visited a large-scale international exhibition presented by advanced products and technologies of the Russian and international companies. The majority of topics during discussion panels and round tables were related to the main subject of the Fellowships Programme – sustainable energy development.
The opportunity of participation in the event of such a big scale is very important for fellows of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme. In fact, they are representatives of the global community and future leaders of their countries. Participants of the 8th Session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme Familiarize With Applied Developments of Russian Scientists
The eighth session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme is being held in Moscow from 6 to 31 October 2014 at the premises of the Ecological Faculty of People’s Friendship University of Russia. The Programme is participated by 19 young professionals - representatives of 18 countries with developing and transition economies, representing such regions as Latin America, Africa, Asia and Central Europe.
The 8th session of the Programme is called "Sustainable Energy for All", which devoted to various issues concerning green technologies, environmental management, international cooperation in the field of energy, sustainable energy development, climate change mitigation, renewable energy sources and others. The curriculum consisted of 116 academic hours of practical and theoretical classes. Also, important part of the programme became visits to the Russian subject-oriented institutions, conferences and exhibitions.
The first half of the eighth session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme was full of various events.
On October 15, students visited the First International Forum "Rugrids-Electro" organized by JSC "Rosseti" and "Expocentre", and also visited the 5th Russian Oil & Gas Technical Conference and Exhibition "SPE Exploration and Production". During the forum "Rugrids-Electro" students participated in the round tables and visited the exhibition presented by well-known companies, including "ALSTOM GRID", "Siemens", "ABB", "HYOSUNG CORPORATION", "GlobalElektroServis", "Evrokontrakt", SPE "Micronika", and others.
At the Russian Oil & Gas Exhibition "SPE Exploration and Production" students of the Fellowships Programme visited the Russian exposition presented by "Gazprom Neft", "Tatneft", "Petroleum Engineering", "Baker Hughes", "Halliburton" and participated in online seminar on fossil fuels extraction in Arctic.
Furthermore, on October 15, 2014 students attended the International Forum "Open Innovations" that was devoted to the latest technologies and prospects of international cooperation in the field of innovations and green technologies. During the forum, students actively participated in discussion panels on green and innovative technologies, and also visited a large-scale international exhibition presented by advanced products and technologies of Russian and international companies.
On the 20th of October participants of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme visited International Conference "Physical and chemical problems of renewable energy" at the International Forum "Renewable Energy". The Forum was held at the Institute of Problems of Chemical Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Chernogolovka (Moscow region).
In the framework of the Conference scientific reports were presented to the audience by leading experts of the Institute of Solid State Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences (ISSP). The students familiarized with the types of fuel cells, its use and development prospects, learnt the specifics of technology of hydrogen storage for fuel cells, discussed with professors the problems and prospects of development of hydrogen storage systems. Participants had an excellent opportunity to visit the Laboratory of Solid State Ionics with demonstration samples of fuel cells and hydrogen MH batteries.
On October 21, students participated in a scientific seminar that was held at the Joint Institute for High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences. During the seminar students were acquainted with the advanced technologies of solid-phase hydrogen storage, learnt about other innovative developments made by leading experts D. Dunikov, D. Blinov, I. Romanov, A. Kazakov, B. Zelener and others. During visits to the laboratories of the Joint Institute for High Temperatures, Mr. Dunikov acquainted students with the specifics of the experiments conducted in the laboratory of hydrogen energy technologies. Head of the laboratory of thermal properties of materials, Dr. B. Zelener demonstrated experimental developments of laser technology for the audience.
As a part of the Fellowships Programme from 27 to 31 October there are scheduled visits to Moscow Ecological Center "Sparrow Hills", Russian Society of Ecologists and International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO.
On 27th of October 2014 a scientific and educational seminar will take place at the International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO (ISEDC), ()in the framework of the 8th session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme «Sustainable Energy for All». The main emphasis of the seminar will be made on the relevant and topical issues within the framework of the Programme, such as sustainable energy development, renewable energy, environment protection, development of cooperation in the field of energy technologies, strengthening the international human capacity development in the energy sector.
In addition, during the remaining period of the Fellowships Programme students will visit specialized exhibitions, such as the International Exhibition of equipment and technologies for urban infrastructure "City Expo 2014" and the Russian oil and gas exhibition "RO&G".

ISEDC Brings Together Young Professionals from 18 Countries
On 27th of October 2014 a scientific and educational seminar took place at the International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO (ISEDC), in the framework of the 8th session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme "Sustainable Energy for All". The seminar was participated by 19 young professionals from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Gambia, Madagascar, Mongolia, Peru, Serbia, Thailand, Zimbabwe, Zambia and other countries.
The main emphasis of the seminar was made on the relevant and topical issues within the framework of the Programme, such as sustainable energy development, renewable energy, environmental protection, development of cooperation in the field of energy technologies, strengthening the international human capacity development in the energy sector.
The event was supervised by leading experts of the Centre, including Deputy Executive Director Mr. Vladimir Berdin, Director of Department of Strategic Planning and Partnership Mr. Ilya Kramarenko, Head of Educational Programmes Sector Mr. Aleksandr Antonov, Head of Global Energy Sector in the Context of Sustainable Energy Development Ms. Lyudmila Kozhanova and Head of Public Relations Sector Ms. Marina Bulavskaya.
During the seminar experts shared their experience in the field of various issues concerning energy efficiency, renewable energy, climate change mitigation, sustainable energy development. They also held interactive lectures and organized communication pannels in order to discuss topical issues within the educational course.
At the beginning of the seminar Head of Public Relations Sector Ms. Bulavskaya acquainted fellows with the main activities of ISEDC and wished the participants interesting discussions and fruitful work.
ISEDC Deputy Executive Director Mr. Berdin during his speech emphasized on development of green technologies, familiarized fellows with the specifics of UNDP/GEF project «Greening 2014 Sochi Olympics: A Strategy and Action Plan for the Greening Legacy».
Director of Department of Strategic Planning and Partnership Mr. Kramarenko told about specific projects within the framework of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) and discussed with students prospects in this area.
Head of Educational Programmes Sector Mr. Antonov acquainted students with the Cenre’s educational projects, including the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme. He also shared further plans to expand the geography of educational programmes and introduced recent changes within the programme.
Head of Global Energy Sector in the Context of Sustainable Energy Development Ms. Kozhanova told about opportunities of participation in the UN Initiative "Sustainable Energy for All". Participants of the seminar were invited to share their knowledge about the experience of participation of their countries in the UN initiatives.
In conclusion, ISEDC Deputy Executive Director Mr. Berdin expressed his hope for active cooperation between all the participants of the seminar.

The 8th Session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme 2014 successfully completed
On October 31, 2014 the 8th Session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-sponsored Fellowships Programme 2014 for specialists from developing countries and countries in transition was ended by graduation ceremony of awarding certificates. The Ceremony was attended by Mr. Vladimir Berdin, Deputy Executive Director of the International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO, Mr.Valery Zykov, Deputy Dean of the Ecological Faculty of the Russian Peoples' Friendship University (PFUR), Dr. Margarita Redina, Head teacher of the education programme, Mr. Alexander Antonov, Head of Educational Programmes Sector at ISEDC, and experts and teachers of the course.
Mr. Berdin on behalf of ISEDC congratulated the graduates with the end of the course and wished everyone success in future beginnings. Mr. Antonov told the audience about the future prospects of the Fellowships Programme of International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO.
