global energy 2020 brilevSergey Brilev, TV presenter and public figure, has just headed the Global Energy Association. The decision to appoint him as a President was made unanimously by the co-founders of the Global Energy Association - PJSC Gazprom, "Surgutneftegas" PJSC, and PJSC FGC UES.

As a head of the organisation, Sergey Brilev will start managing the existing Global Energy Association’s projects, as well as developing new directions.

"Presently, crucial processes are underway for both Russian and world energy spheres," said Brilev. "There is an interesting international debate on the energy balance and a combination of conventional and non-conventional energy spheres alongside new ways of energy application. For the co-founders of the Global Energy Prize, its International Award Committee, and those who are preparing to hold the anniversary meeting of the World Energy Council in Russia, it is time to join forces in order to develop a reasonable strategy for the sustainable development of industry and society. The first trial format will be energy readings for schoolchildren and students not just from Moscow and St. Petersburg, but also from other Russian regions, including, for example, Kuzbass. We are preparing this project in cooperation with Sirius Educational Center. The Global Energy Prize laureates and representatives of major energy companies will communicate with participants. The World Energy Council in London has been informed about the readings today. With WEC, we will discuss as to how the Global Energy Association could facilitate the preparations for its anniversary Congress, which is now being prepared in Russia, engaging in tailoring a dialogue, which, as we hope, could be mutually useful," he added.

Sergey Brilev’s main journalistic specialisation is exclusive interviews with world leaders. In particular, his interviewees were leaders of the UN Security Council’s permanent member countries: Russian Presidents Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev, British Prime Ministers Tony Blair, Gordon Brown, and David Cameron, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier of the State Council Li Keqiang, US Presidents George Bush and Barack Obama, French Presidents Valery Giscard d'Estaing, Nicolas Sarkozy, and Emmanuel Macron.

He publishes books and articles on international relations, including with his permanent British co-author Bernard O’Connor.

Born on July 24, 1972, in Havana, Cuba, he graduated from Moscow State Institute of International Relations (1995), the Institute of Foreign Languages of Montevideo (1991), courses of BBC (1995), and the U.S. Agency for International Development.
