global energy 2018 7The solemn Global Energy Prize award ceremony will take place on October 4, at 14:00, on the second day of the "Russian Energy Week" forum. This year the scientists from Russia and Australia, Academician Sergei Alekseenko of the Russian Academy of Sciences and Professor Martin Green, are awarded a high prize.

The bonus fund in 2018 is 39 million rubles.

Laureates-2018 were named in June at a meeting of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee meeting. Sergey Alekseenko (Russia) is an Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, an expert in the field of thermophysics, energy, and energy conservation. He receives the award for the preparation of thermophysical bases for the creation of modern energy and energy-saving technologies that allow the design of environmentally friendly thermal power plants (by simulating combustion processes of gas, coal and liquid fuels). They are also used in the development of new types of burners, methods of thermal processing of solid domestic waste to generate thermal energy, modeling the processes of liquefying natural gas and developing thermal and hydraulic safety standards for nuclear power plants.

It is noteworthy that the second year in a row, the prize is awarded for developments in the solar energy field. Martin Green (Australia) will receive The Global Energy Award for research, development and educational activities in the field of photovoltaics. Sales of systems using PERC solar cells, invented by Martin Green, exceeded 4 billion dollars at the end of 2016. According to Bloomberg New Energy Finance, the total sales of solar cells using its technology will exceed 1 trillion US dollars by 2040. PERC solar cells are now becoming a commercial standard throughout the world. According to the forecasts, in the next decade, the solar elements will save another 750 million dollars on energy production in Australia only.

44 scientists from 14 countries competed for the award in the 16th nomination cycle of the Global Energy Prize. Most of the developments came from the renewable energy sphere, with the second place taken by researches in the field of efficient use of energy and electricity.

The award ceremony will be held on October 4 at 14:00, at the Plenary Hall (Manezh Central Exhibition Hall, Moscow, Manezhnaya pl.1). The event will take place during the Global Energy Prize Laureates' Week within the framework of which the association will conduct a series of events with the participation of members of the Global Energy Prize International Award Committee, young promising scientists and experts in the energy sector.
