5On October 18, after two-day theoretical and practical classes on Russian experience in energy management, fellows were invited to participate in the 5th Annual Forum “Open Innovations”. The Forum is a global discussion platform that is dedicated to emerging technologies and furthering innovation prospects and collaboration worldwide.

The fellows of the 11th session of the Fellowships Programme actively participated in plenary sessions, discussions panels on promotion of innovative technologies for sustainable development, green energy aspects with IT-technologies and development of digital economy worldwide. The young researchers also visited a large-scale international exhibition presented by advanced products and technologies of the Russian and international companies.
The following days of the Programme were dedicated to scientific and research laboratories of Moscow State Construction University (MSCU) and Joint Institute for High Temperatures (JIHT) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. On October 19, students participated in a scientific seminar that was held at JIHT. During the seminar fellows were acquainted with the advanced technologies of solid-phase hydrogen storage, learnt about other innovative developments made by leading JIHT experts D. Dunikov, I. Romanov, B. Zelener and others. During visits to the laboratories of the Joint Institute for High Temperatures, Mr. Dunikov acquainted students with the specifics of the experiments conducted in the laboratory of hydrogen energy technologies.
On October 20, participants of the Fellowships Programme attended the Moscow State University of Civil Engineering (MSUCE). They had an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with the state of the art engineering developments of scientific and laboratory facilities of the university. During the MSUCE lab tour, international fellows visited research laboratory of aerodynamic and aeroacoustic tests of building construction, scientific educational laboratory of engineering research and monitoring of building structures and Scientific Research Center «Translucent Structures». The fellows were introduced to the leading experts of MSUCE laboratories. Head of climatic tests laboratory, Dr. Stanislav Pashkevich arranged an excursion to the Research Institute of Building Materials and familiarized students with the research of durability and corrosion resistance of building materials and products.
The fourth week of training became the most intense. On October 23, participants of the programme visited All-Russian Research Institute for Electrification of Agriculture. During the visit Dr. Igor Tyukhov arranged the tour to experimental laboratories, such as laboratory of electrical agriculture equipment, laboratory of technology of photovoltaic cells and electronic devices, experimental technological laboratory of solar cells and laboratory of bio-energy installations. Also, students had an excellent opportunity to visit UNESCO Chair “Renewable energy and rural electrification”.
The examination day on October 24 was the most exciting day for both students and Examination Commission consisting of ISEDC experts and invited experts from the UNDP/GEF Project “Building Energy Efficiency in the North West of Russia” and People’s Friendship University of Russia. Fellows presented their examination projects in which they analyzed situations in the energy sector of their countries, shared statistical data and evaluated prospects for the development of energy. According to the second examination task, all participants were divided into two teams. After that, all fellows moved to tense discussions, the result of which became several main examination projects. According to the results of the Examination Commission, all fellows demonstrated excellent knowledge and successfully passed the exam.
The final two days were devoted to the field trips. On October 25, students visited the representative office of a large French engineering company “Schneider Electric”, which provides development and production of solutions in the field of energy management, as well as integrated energy-efficient solutions for energy, industrial enterprises and construction sites. The experts of company presented building management systems "smart house", demonstrated samples of high-performance controllers, circuit breakers and load switches, measuring systems and technological developments of the company.
The final thematic visit was organized on October 26, to the Renewable Energy Laboratory of Lomonosov Moscow State University. The leading scientists of the laboratory Nadezhda Chernova and Sophia Kiseleva presented innovative technological solutions of energy-saving microalgae cultivation and demonstrated interactive maps of existing and constructing RES facilities on the territory of Russia.
On October 27, the 11th session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-sponsored Fellowships Programme for specialists from developing countries and countries in transition was ended up by the graduation ceremony of awarding certificates. The ceremony was attended by ISEDC Executive Director Yury Posysaev, Head of Section of Educational Activities Aleksander Antonov, UNDP Project Manager Vitaly Bekker and leading UNDP consultant Andrey Dodonov. Mr. Posysaev congratulated the graduates with the successful completion of the Fellowships Programme and wished everyone success in further professional activities. Mr. Antonov thanked everyone for responsible attitude to the studying process and also expressed his hope for further communication and cooperation. The international fellows, in their turn, returned thanks to management and experts of International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO, United Nations Development Programme and Engineering Academy of People’s Friendship University of Russia for high quality educational process and cultural activities.
