1During the second week of the UNESCO/ISEDC Сo-Sponsored Fellowships Programme fellows studied the course related to municipal and industrial energy management. ISEDC partners became the lecturers of the course in the framework of the Programme, namely leading experts of UNDP-GEF Project “Building energy efficiency in the North-West of Russia”, Mr. Vitaly Bekker and Mr. Andrey Dodonov.

The main part of the course dealt with the state of modern energy efficient and energy saving technologies, environmental management systems and existing systems of municipal management of energy resources (EMIS), including the introduction stages of such systems in the regions of Russia. In practical sessions, fellows applied their knowledge in assessing economic efficiency of different energy sources, made their predictions from the perspective of efficient and energy-saving technologies, and assessed environmental and economic risks of municipal buildings. During the week, experts created conditions of maximum immersion in the course subject and actively applied the method of team building in order to ensure a high-quality education.

In order to revise gained knowledge and prepare the fellows for the upcoming exam, UNDP experts Andrey Dodonov and Vitaly Bekker conducted a practical team building training. The task of the training was to develop and construct models of energy efficient buildings: a polyclinic, a kindergarten and a school. During the training game all fellows were divided into three teams in order to build a model of a house that meets all the requirements of energy efficient standards. Young energy managers demonstrated their knowledge by constructing energy efficient houses and proved their energy efficiency on demonstrative examples.

The third week of the Programme started out with a training interactive game for future energy managers called "Empire of Light". The rules of the game were presented by innovator and a patent holder Andrey Kulakov who became a coordinator of game project. According to the rules, the participants were divided into two energy companies with the aim to present their own projects for the development of energy sector in Russia in specific regions.

The main task of the game was to correctly place on the map of the Russian Federation different types of stations: solar and wind stations, hydro-electric power stations, central heating and power plants, regional hydro-electric power plants and nuclear power stations so that reliable power lines were connected in all parts of the country and the cost of them was not beyond the financial possibilities of players. As a result of research and calculations, the participants of the game proved that knowledge and information gained during the first two weeks were extremely useful in a real-life situation.

A cycle of lectures with invited foreign and Russian experts is scheduled as well during the third week of the Fellowships Programme. The teachers and lecturers of the Engineering Academy of People’s Friendship University of Russia will conduct trainings on green energy technologies and share their experience on energy management and use of renewable energy sources in the Russian Federation.

Finally, in the second half of the third week, the fellows will have an intense Programme with a lot of outreach activities. As a part of acquaintance with research and educational institutions and companies, as well as exhibition sites, conferences and forums, fellows will visit the Russian head office of a large French engineering company “Schneider Electric”, which provides development and production of solutions in the field of electricity management.

Also, participants will have an opportunity to visit the experimental construction complex "New Vatutinki" in the area of New Moscow and get acquainted with the heat supply units of this complex.

The visits are also planned to Moscow Construction University and the Institute of High Temperatures of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The other important event during the third week of the Programme is going to be the International Forum of Innovative Developments "Open Innovations", which will be held under the auspices of the Government of the Russian Federation. This forum is considered to be a unique discussion platform devoted to the development of innovative, computer and intelligent technologies.
