global enegry engOn October 27th in the framework of “Open innovations” forum the winner of the second All-Russian competition of implemented innovative projects in the field of energy “The Energy of Breakthrough” Mikhail Chernetskiy will be awarded.

Mikhail is a senior research fellow at The Institute of Thermal Physics under the Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences.

His project is widely implemented in Russian and foreign companies and meets the coal-fired power industry’s main challenges, making the coal burning more effective and ecologically safe.
Mikhail won the competition with the project "Complex of mathematical models for the processes of coal fuels flare combustion, formation of harmful emissions and slagging of heating surfaces in coal-fired boilers". This scientific area is especially important for Russia, taking into consideration that 50% of energy in Siberia and Far East is produced by using coal. In world energy coal holds the second position following oil as the most popular.
Mathematical models helped to create a kind of virtual training simulator, which helped to work out the most effective mechanism of coal burning and lower the amount of polluting emissions in atmosphere. “Modelling the coal burning process gives us an opportunity to experiment in virtual environment, when by means of special program we can look inside the combustion chamber, reveal the burning patterns and trace depending factors that influence polluting emissions”, - elaborates the scientist on his project.
Mikhail’s innovation has been successfully implemented in various energy facilities. This is, by the way, one of the competition’s main requirements. The program complex SigmaFlame developed on the basis of the models, promoted optimization the functioning of more than 20 coal-fired boilers in Russia and abroad. In particular, the scientific project was used for the reconstruction of the Russia’s largest boiler set up at Beryozovskaya GRES. While enhancing the boiler capacity by 100 MW, the net profit amounts to 180 mln rubles with payback period of 3 years.
The program complex based on the mathematical models also allows to optimize the new coal-fired boilers’ development due to the lower costs and cutting time. For example, the economic effect of the innovation’s implementation in several GRES of Siberian region amounts to 180 000 dollars per year.
As a reminder, the All-Russian competition of implemented innovative projects in the field of energy “The Energy of Breakthrough” is organized by the “Global Energy” Non-Profit Partnership. To participate a scientist needs to be not more than 35-year-old and be a Russian citizen. Another requirement – commercial success of the project. The winner gets RUB 1 mln. “The competition task is to involve into creative process young talented scientists who not only generate new ideas, but also turn them into successful, time-proved projects”, - says the Partnership President Igor Lobovsky.
The official partner of “The Energy of Breakthrough” – 2016 is Siberian Coal Energy Company – the Russia’s leading coal producer. This company’s representatives will take part in  the award ceremony.
