On October 6, 2015 the IX session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-sponsored Fellowships Programme for specialists from developing countries and countries in transition officially started up at the premises of Ecological Faculty of Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (PFUR).
The programme will be held from 5th to 30th October 2015. This year 19 young specialists from all over the world participate in the IX session, including fellows from Belarus, Brazil, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Fiji, Kirghizstan, Madagascar, Mexico, Thailand, Turkey and Zimbabwe.
The IX session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Fellowships Programme - 2015 was officially opened by Mr. Yury Posysaev, ISEDC Executive Director, and Mr. Aleksandr Antonov, Chief of ISEDC Educational Sector, along with colleagues from Ecological Faculty of Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, Mrs. Olga Rodionova, Faculty Study Director, and Dr. Margarita Redina, Applied Ecology Chairman.
Mrs. Rodionova welcomed the participants on behalf of the Dean of Ecological Faculty. Dr. Redina familiarized fellows with the schedule of educational programme and shared interesting aspects of the study process.
“The issues related to human capacity building in the field of renewable energy, sustainable energy development and environmental management of energy resources are in the top priority to UNESCO and ISEDC”, as was mentioned by Mr. Posysaev in his welcoming remarks towars participants. He also noted that “it is necessary that scientific ideas must be inspired by not just the desire to improve the world, but to save it, save the environment, biological and cultural diversity, natural resources of our planet for future generations”. Mr. Antonov expressed his hope that all participants of the fellowships programme will be able to use and share their knowledge, developments and scientific ideas. “I am sure that during this month you will work together as one team in order to gain new knowledge, which will be used in your future scientific and practical activities”, he mentioned.
The main subject of the Fellowships Programme-2015 is related to “Effective Use of Energy Resources” and devoted to the topical issues within the framework of the programme, such as sustainable energy development, renewable energy, environment protection, development of cooperation in energy field.
For the first time information and communication technologies (ICT) will be used in the framework of this year training course. The experts from the Northern (Arctic) Federal University and St. Petersburg State Technological University of Plant Polymers will conduct online lectures and webinars with appliances of computer programmes.
The educational process of the IX session will be led by experienced lecturers from Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia, International Sustainable Energy Development Centre under the auspices of UNESCO, and also by invited experts from United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Wildlife Fund (WWF), Joint Institute for High Temperatures of Russian Academy of Sciences, Moscow Energy Institute, Moscow State University, Center for International Industrial Cooperation of UNIDO in the Russian Federation and other organizations.
During the programme fellows will make reports on the situation and prospects of energy development in their countries, record video appeals to all future participants of the fellowships programme and present their courseworks.
