At the invitation of UNESCO and the organizers of the VII World Science Forum (WSF), Hungarian Academy of Sciences ISEDC Executive Director Yury Posysaev will take part in WSF which will be held from 4 to 7 November 2015 in Budapest, Hungary.
The Forum has been held every other year since 2003 serving as a platform for exchange between the scientific community and society. The theme of this year event will be “the enabling power of science.”
The World Science Forum will be the first major international science event since the recent adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of new Sustainable Development Goals for 2015-20130. It will seek to highlight the ability of science to improve human lives and the life of our planet.
“The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development embodies a new vision for humanity, for the planet, for peace, for the next 15 years – science stands at its heart as a force for positive transformation and a development multiplier,” said the Director-General of UNESCO Irina Bokova in her message for this year’s world Science Day for Peace and Development.
János Áder, the President of Hungary, will be among the distinguished roster of some 500 participants, scientists, decision-makers, industry leaders and representatives of civil society who will express their views on the new challenges facing science in the 21st century.
The Forum is hosted by the Hungarian Academy of Sciences in partnership with UNESCO, the International Council for Science (ICSU), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), The World Academy of Science (TWAS) and the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC).
On 4th of November, at the opening ceremony the participants of the Forum will be addressed by H.E. Viktor Orban, Prime Minister of Hungary; László Lovász, President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and President of World Science Forum; Flavia Schlegel, Assistant Director-General for Natural Sciences, UNESCO; Tibor Navracsics, EU Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport; Gordon McBean, President, ICSU; Rush D. Holt, CEO, AAAS.
A video message to the participants of the Forum will be addressed by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.
At the invitation of UNESCO and the organizers of the VII World Science Forum, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, ISEDC Executive Director Yury Posysaev will take part in WSF, including a presentation as a speaker at the Thematic Session “Renewable Energy for Global Sustainability”, organized by UNESCO on 6 November 2015 in the building of Hungarian Academy of Sciences.
