siberia coalRussia is preparing the ground for future regulation of carbon emissions, amid calls to wean the economy off its heavy dependence on polluting fossil fuels.
Russia's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has published a draft law introducing a baseline for controlling planet-warming emissions.

It includes a legal definition of greenhouse gases and how to measure and report emissions, as well as enshrining the government's right to regulate them.

On 4th of November, at the Opening Ceremony of World Science Forum 2015 a panel of global thought-leaders declared renewed intent to fight poverty and promote just, equitable and inclusive social development based on the restoration, protection and sustainable use of natural resources and ecosystems.

wsf logoAt the invitation of UNESCO and the organizers of the VII World Science Forum (WSF), Hungarian Academy of Sciences ISEDC Executive Director Yury Posysaev will take part in WSF which will be held from 4 to 7 November 2015 in Budapest, Hungary.

The Forum has been held every other year since 2003 serving as a platform for exchange between the scientific community and society. The theme of this year event will be “the enabling power of science.”

20During the last fourth week of training (October 26-30), fellows of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme visited Russian and international exhibitions and congresses and presented their course works.


38The 38th session of UNESCO’s General Conference opened today with an eye on the future.

The biennial meeting of the governing body will set the path for UNESCO as it reviews programme and policy plans aimed at achieving the 2015-2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which were adopted in New York in September.

The World Science Forum will be the first major international science event since the recent adoption by the United Nations General Assembly of new Sustainable Development Goals for 2015-20130.

27During the third week (October 19-23) of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-sponsored Fellowships Programme the fellows visited experimental laboratories of the leading Russian research and scientific institutions and participated in educational seminars and online conferences.

On October 19, fellows participated in a scientific seminar held by the Joint Institute for High Temperatures (JIHT) of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

35During the second week (October 12-16) of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-sponsored Fellowships Programme the fellows visited various lectures and seminars, participated in professional discussions with lecturers and students of the Ecological Faculty of Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia.

The curriculum agenda was devoted to the problems of modern society, in particular to the topical issues, such as “Global climate change”, “Low-carbon development”, “Energy poverty” and “Environmental safety”.
