Due to limited fuel resources in the world, as well as to increase of catastrophic changes in the atmosphere and the Earth’s biosphere, it is necessary to begin immediately a gradual transition to the clean, reliable, secure and competitive energy sources. Renewable energy sources (RES) development can play a key role to achieve this goal.

The total potential resources of solar, wind, biomass, small water streams, geothermal, tidal and ocean waves, as well as other forms of renewable energy sources are much higher than current and predicted for the foreseeable future level of humanity consumption. That is why they can be considered as a possible source of energy production.

Unlike fossil fuels, renewable energy sources generally are evenly distributed throughout the world. They are not in the exclusive possession of a limited number of countries and therefore these energy sources are regarded as sources, the use of which can play a significant role in solving problems related to the climate change, environmental degradation and energy security as well as contribute to reduction of dependence from energy import.

Despite the existing barriers (imperfection of the legal framework, as well as lack of funding), there have been achieved impressive technological advances in the sphere of technologies and systems of renewable energy use.

Achievements in electronics, biotechnologies, nanotechnologies, as well as data from the sphere of natural sciences, and many other energy-related areas are used in systems which are based on renewable energy sources.

ISEDC experts participate in research projects, which are directed on:

  • performance of estimation of renewable energy potential in Russia and in the world
  • overview of promising projects in the field of renewable energy sector
  • analysis of measures and financial mechanisms of state support for renewable energy sources
