14The annual Forum and Exhibition «Open Innovations» were held in Moscow on 14–16 October 2014 supported by the Moscow Government and the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation.

The Forum «Open Innovations» is a global discussion platform that is dedicated to emerging technologies and furthering innovation prospects and collaboration worldwide.

bokova4On October 7 UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova gave an on-line lecture to students from 38 universities in all regions enrolled in the “Global Classroom on Sustainable Development.”

This Global Masters on development Practice course is led by the Sustainable Development Solutions Network at Columbia University, New York.

general_assemblyThe United Nations General Assembly today discussed Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s report on the work of the Organization, which covers a range of issues and calls for renewed efforts to address peace and security challenges and to encourage development aspirations.

“While we can take satisfaction that millions of people have been lifted out of extreme poverty, too many more continue to suffer from privation, insecurity and inequality,” Mr. Ban said in the introduction to his report.

1The issues related to the sustainable energy development will be discussed by foreign students - participants of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-Sponsored Fellowships Programme in October this year.

On the 6th of October 2014 the 8th session of the UNESCO/ISEDC Co-sponsored Fellowships Programme for specialists from developing countries and countries in transition started up at the premises of Ecological Faculty of Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia. This year the Programme is participated by 19 young specialists from Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Gambia, Madagascar, Mali, Mongolia, Montenegro, Peru, Serbia, Slovakia, Tajikistan, Togo, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Zimbabwe and Zambia.

bokova7On 6 October, the Director-General of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, took part in an event to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Abdus Salam International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Trieste, Italy.

The Director-General opened the conference, entitled "50 Years of Science for the Future," together with Yukiya Amano, Director-General of IAEA, Hamadoun Touré, Secretary General of ITU, Romain Murenzi, Executive Director of the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, as well as Mr. Mario Giro, Under-Secretary of State of the Foreign Affairs of the Government of Italy.
